10.2 - ArcGIS Administrator and others crashing on startup

$

Hi Folks, been banging my head on this one for a week and a half. Hope somebody can give me an avenue to pursue because I'm running out of ideas. I'm having this exact problem:

http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/100...ing-on-startup

I run the arc10 license server version 10.2.0.3348. I have 100 machines that run identical hardware, identical software installs and on only ONE of these boxes Arc programs crash on startup. All the rest work flawlessly. wat?! It can't be software version or file permissions because if I reimage the box with a known good working image it still does this. It doesn't seem to be the server, other machines work, there are plenty of free licenses, the server logs for this machine looks like this:

14:26:11 (ARCGIS) IN: "ARC/INFO" user@CC2617-C1-W
14:32:42 (ARCGIS) OUT: "ARC/INFO" user@CC2617-C1-W

So it looks like the server is actually allowing and checking out the license to the client for the duration of the time the crash report is on the screen, unless it's not and it's just tracking attempted usage. I don't think there is a blacklist, or if there is I can't find it. Is there a way to turn up logging on the server side so I can see if the server is denying?

On the client if you run any Arc application it fails hard and shows you the "Arc <whateverprogram> has stopped working". Details from this are here:

ArcMap crash's at Initializing license with the following:

I tried swapping the network cable with a known working machine and it didn't work.

I also swapped the nic to verify it wasn't a nic problem. Still broken same way.

Checked firewall on License server and it is definitely off.

Checked for logs on local machine and there are none that seem useful.

Tried to run Arc Administrator on the broken machine and it failed in the same way as the other programs.

I was getting desperate so i captured traffic during Arc start time on both the broken client and a working client. Inconclusive, the handshake with the server is pretty complicated, I couldn't identify the source of the failure.

OK, lemme know if there's anything else I can provide that'd be useful.

Any other ideas for things to try? Might need to start look for a door that needs a new doorstop ;)

thx!

I have tried several times to install ArcGIS 10 and/or 10.1. I continue to get the same error message which prevents the installation:

Internal Error 2709. Geocoding.dll. BDC995F2_32BB_4A4A_8555_FFD5B4D6427D

Anybody familiar with this? Thanks.

All tools in ArcToolBox crash

Hi All,

I installed ArcGIS 10.2.1 on my Windows 8.1 Pro machine and am having problems.

I can open/display maps, and do many of my 'normal mapping' stuff.

However, every single tool that I have tried in ArcToolBox 'crashes' ArcMap. I put crash in quotes because it ArcMap just disappears.

I had noticed that some people complained that newer versions of Python installed on the machine interfere so I uninstalled by Python 3.2. I think that I am now using the correct Python (see code below).

What else could be causing my problems ? What seems odd is that when I open a command window and type 'python -V' it comes back as not a recognized command

I typed the following into my ArcMap python window. I believe this means that it is running correctly.

Code:

>>> import sys
>>> for pypath in sys.path:
...    print pypath
...
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\python27.zip
c:\program files (x86)\arcgis\desktop10.2\arcpy
C:\Python27\ArcGIS10.2\Lib
C:\Python27\ArcGIS10.2\DLLs
C:\Python27\ArcGIS10.2\Lib\lib-tk
C:\WINDOWS\System32
C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.2\bin
C:\Python27\ArcGIS10.2

C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.2\arcpy
C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.2\ArcToolbox\Scripts
>>> print 'Running against: %s' %sys.version

ArcGIS 10.2 Activation Problewm

Hello,

I'm in University and have ArcGIS Desktop 10.2 One-Year License version. I installed ArcGIS and tried to activate it with my authorization code but it does not work. My disc came with an authorization code in the box.

Currently when I go to ArcGIS Administrator I have it set to Standard (ArcEditor) Single Use. I always get a pop up saying the following message:

Error
7174:Only deployed entitlement line can be fulfilled. Incident# 8215-192698142

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks!

Setting license level permanently for a user in Terminal Services environment

Hi

Using ArcDesktop 10.1 on Terminal Services, I'm trying to find a way for setting the desired license level once, affecting only my session.

I'm aware of the Environment Variable workaround, but it would only work for Context scope (meaning I have to launch the document / application in the same scope), or as a permanent System Environment Variable.
Adding it to the User Environment Variable won't affect the license level.

Any help will be appreciated!

changing python27 path

when I went to install arcgis on Drive C:, the installation would complain that D: was unavailable. After plugging in my external hard drive (which maps to D:\ ), the installation completed (on C:\ ) without any trouble.

Strange enough, but now when I unplug my external drive, arcmap will crash when I toggle arctoolbox, and I see that a python27 has been installed on D:

Is there a way to change the path that arc uses to find python27?

License Error -96 on Mac running Arcmap on Windows 8.1 through Bootcamp

Hello! I acquired ArcMap through my school system for a class I'm taking, which is provided by JMU. I was told that it could be run on a Mac through parallels, so I downloaded everything and got a copy of Windows 8.1 through my school system, and I partitioned my disk to get a Windows 8.1 partition. I then got the ArcMap disk and installed all the software, but when I run it, it pops up with:

//begin error message//

Provide your license server administrator with the following information:
Error Code = -96

License server machine is down or not responding.
See the system administrator about starting the license server system, or
make sure you're referring to the right host (see LM_LICENSE_FILE).
Feature: ARC/INFO
Hostname: Not_Set
License Path: @Not_Set
FLEXnet Licensing error:-96,7. System Error: 11001 "Comm. error"

//end error message//

This has also happened to at least one other student with their home computer as well (running windows 7), though I'm not sure they had the exact same error specs (path = @Not_Set, # -96)

I need it for school and my teacher has no idea what to do, and JMU isn't giving us any tech support. Any help would be awesome.

Apply BING key at a global level

Hi,
We recently installed the BING Maps api patch to ArcMap 10.1 so that our users could access the BING imagery. We run a Windows terminal server and found that if the admin runs the SetBingKey.exe and puts in a valid key it only applies to them. Other users also need to run the executable. Since we have a lot of users on our TS is there a way to set the key globally so that it is applied to every user?

I had a search through the registry and couldn't find anything related to ArcMap and BING Keys.

Can the ArcGIS 10.2 Uninstall Utility be configured with switches to run silently?

Can I change the timeout warning length for License Manager?

$

Because the License Manager for ArcGIS Desktop is based on Flex tools, I was wondering if there was a way to create or alter a custom setting for the timeout warning? I would like to set my borrowed licenses to 15 days, and not have users getting a warning every day. I would like to keep the warning turned on. I would like to change to 3 or 5 days. We will soon be serving out well over 100 desktop licenses.

I wondered if I added lmtools to the server to match the Flexera version 11.10.1.0 lmgrd could I do some customization? I also wondered if there was something not listed in the License Manager Reference Guide that could be done in the options file ARCGIS.opt.

I figured someone with a better developer skillset than I has probably tackled this issue. Any help is appreciated!

Install of ArcGIS 10.1 stuck in catch-22 with uninstall of ArcGIS 9

I am trying to install ArcGIS 10.1 on a desktop machine that once had ArcGIS 9 on it.

I used the control panel: add/remove programs utility to run ArcGIS 9 some time ago. I can't recall exactly, but I believe it worked partially then gave me an error. Subsequent efforts to remove were impossible because no ArcGIS 9 product is listed in the add/remove list.

When I try to install the new ArcGIS software, I get a message box that says, "One or more ArcGIS version 9.2.1324 product(s) exist on your machine. You must uninstall them before installing ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop"

REPEAT: If I go to "Control Panel: Add or remove programs" I do NOT see ArcGIS listed at all in the program list.

The ESRI utility that oversees the ArcGIS 10.1 installation also has an uninstall program. I clicked that and it gives me the message, "No previous versions found. Proceed with ArcGIS 10.1 installation".

So it seems I can't go forward with installing ArcGIS 10.1 because there's some remnants of ArcGIS 9 on the machine, but I can seem to locate or uninstall those remnants. Any suggestions?

Thank you for any help.

One of our users is getting an error when opening ArcMap, which is attached. We have recently installed 10.2.1. Here are the details of the machine:

OS: Windows XP, sp3 32-bit
.NET Framework: 4 Extended
SQL Native Client: 2008
ArcGIS Version: 10.2.1
ArcGIS License: Basic (concurrent)

I don't believe any other ArcGIS products are installed.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Can't uninstall ArcGIS 931

I have a machine (XP) that I need to remove ArcGIS 9.3.1 (sp1) from.

When I go through the Windows Add/Remove and do a remove it fails with the following message:

"Error 1500. Another installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before continuing this one."

--The error statement is incorrect. I turned the machine on, logged in, and tried to do the uninstall, so there's not another installation going on.

After this happened I tried to do a repair on the install, hoping that would make it possible for me to then do the uninstall. But that just raised the same error as the uninstall.

10.2 Startup Hang time?

Problem: On startup, Arcmap hangs for about 90 seconds with arcmap splashscreen stuck on "Finalizing Installation". It seems to be profile specific. Recreating my profile provided a temporary fix but the issue came back. Full uninstall/reinstall of arcmap had no effect. Is there any particular place in the user's profile folder that may be contributing to this issue?

Thanks for the ideas!

How to Deauthorize single use license, don't know ESU numbers

$

39230 - Deauthorize one or more of multiple concurrent or single-use licenses has a nice clear recipe for removing licenses from an end users machines. Excerpt:

Single-use licenses
  1. To deauthorize a single-use license, verify that SoftwareAuthorization.exe exists in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcGIS\bin".
  2. Open a command prompt window, and change the path to C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcGIS\bin
  3. Run the following command to deauthorize the software silently:
    Code:

    SoftwareAuthorization.exe -return ESU123456789,ESU987654321 /s

It's missing one critical piece though: how does one get the list of ESU numbers authorized on that machine?

When I run the setup.exe for 10.2 trial version, for some reason it gets stuck in a loop when writing system registry values. I tried 10.1 trial version, did the same thing. I let it run for 30 minutes, still no results. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Please Help - ArcGIS 10.1 not functioning in bootcamp (but ArcGIS 10.0 does?)

$

I had a prior student version of ArcGIS 10.0 running fine on my Macbook Pro in bootcamp running Windows 7, but for some reason when I installed 10.1, I started getting weird graphic display issues:

In a nutshell, after successful installation and authorization of ArcGIS 10.1, when I open an .mxd (v10.0 or v10.1), the scaling of the text is way too large in the table of contents and way too small in the menus and the mouse pointer/clicks are not functioning appropriately. The functionality of the tools still seems to be working (even though it is difficult to negotiate the mouse with the offset micro-menus). I presume it may be a graphics driver issue? The strange thing is that this is not at all a problem when running my previous version of ArcGIS 10.0 (the same .mxd that works fine in 10.0 has the graphics issues in 10.1). I have attached screenshots with details of my system to clarify my technical system details and an image depicting the problem itself.

I am running Windows 7 64bit home premium in bootcamp on a mid-2012 Macbook Pro with Intel HD Graphics 4000/Nvidia Geoforce GT 650M graphics. I have installed all of the associated bootcamp drivers (Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033) to run windows 7 in bootcamp and all other applications/functions are working fine. I have downloaded a student version of ArcGIS 10.1 (GTK ArcGIS Desktop 10.1) and I have successfully installed/authorized it. I made sure to follow the instruction from ESRI and install the .NET update as well. I sent a help request to ESRI, but doubt I will get much support on this.

I am a student with immediate assignments due and this is a real hang up for me. I'd rather not buy a windows machine just to run 1 piece of software.

Any other bootcamp ArcGIS users out there who can help me? I'm still confounded that 10.0 works but 10.1 doesn't...

Thanks,
Will

Install & licensing issues 10.2.1

I installed all my single use software today and put in all my license information.

ArcMap opens and runs ok, but non of the extensions seem to work. They appear to be authorized, but I get an error saying they are not licensed. Did I miss something with the install and licensing? If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Thanks
