Desktop won't run over VPN on Sprint Aircard?

We have a laptop that won't run Desktop 10.0, coming to a halt on the splash screen saying "Loading VBA..." This only happens when we try to use it while on Sprint Aircard, logged into a VPN network. What's really weird is that we have the checked out license server running and it has a license checked out, which makes the whole think work (no problems at all) when we disconnect from the network entirely. Has anybody else seen this or know of any solutions?
