I am trying to access an Enterprise License Server by remote access, but my Arc Administrator won’t allow me to ‘see’ my network.
My PC runs Windows 7, and I can connect to my network remotely via an application called Check Point SSL Network Extender. This is a web-based application that works through Internet Explorer. This works ok; I can see my networked folders, and even remotely connect with my native applications and play with my desktop, even though it is on the other side of the world.
However running arcGIS 10 by remote desktop is sluggish and prone to connection breakages, so I wish to log on to our Enterprise License Manager, check out a license, and then use it locally.
However when I open ArcGIS Administrator, the box on the left-hand side shows only my local network, which is called ‘Home PC’. So even though I am connected to the network remotely, ArcGIS Administrator cannot see that I am, so I cannot browse for the network license on the central Enterprise License Manager.
I know that what I want to do is possible, as our ArcGIS manager uses remote access every day. But he is stumped by this one.
Clearly there is an obstacle to Arc Administrator seeing the network. I have opened my Firewall to allow ArcGIS, Arc Administrator and SSl Network Extender through, but no joy.
I see from a post on an earlier forum and an earlier version of ArcGIS that it was necessary to open a specific port on the Firewall, but does this apply to Version 10, and if so, which one should I open, and how do I do it?
